In a peculiar incident, a man from Bajaur faced arrest for disseminating false news about a “love affair” on social media in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).

According to reports, a local resident named Muhammad Gulab shared a fake photograph, claiming that a British woman named Ela had arrived in the remote Salarzai area of Bajaur, KP, to meet her romantic partner.

The authorities took Muhammad Gulab into custody for spreading a fabricated image on social media, falsely asserting that his friend had married a British woman after establishing a relationship on Facebook.

The alleged presence of a foreign woman in the distant Bajaur tehsil caused concern in the police department, leading them to dispatch a group of police officers to ensure her safety.

Additional SHO Zahir Shah Khan explained that upon receiving the news of the British woman’s presence in the area, a police team promptly went to Muhammad Ishaq’s residence. However, it was revealed that the news was merely a prank orchestrated by Muhammad Ishaq’s friend, Muhammad Ghulam, who had been operating his Facebook account under the name “Gulab Jaman.”

Consequently, the police arrested Muhammad Ghulam on charges of spreading false rumors and misinformation on social media.

Meanwhile, the local community has launched a campaign advocating for the release of Muhammad Gulab.
