Eidul Azha Ruet Committee Convenes Today for Zil Hajj Moon Sighting

The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee is scheduled to convene in Karachi today to sight the Zilhajj moon, a key event that determines the date for Eidul Azha in Pakistan.

The meeting will take place at the Meteorological Department office in Karachi, with Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad, Chairman of the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, presiding over the session.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department has previously indicated that the Zilhajj moon is most likely to be sighted on June 7, which would set Eidul Azha for June 17. According to the Climate Data Processing Centre, the moon will rise at 5:38 PM on June 6, with sunset expected at 7:20 PM, making the moon visible for approximately 72 minutes after sunset.

Eidul Azha, also known as the Feast of Sacrifice, is one of the two major Islamic festivals, celebrated in remembrance of Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son as an act of obedience to God. The festival is traditionally marked by the slaughter of animals, with the meat distributed among family, friends, and the poor. The sacrificial rituals and celebrations continue for three days.
