Former Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader, Fawad Chaudhry, has submitted a written apology to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) in the ECP contempt case. The ECP has reserved its decision over the case.

In his apology, Chaudhry urged for a charter of democracy before the general elections in the country, stating that addressing the issue of estrangement between the PTI chairman and Nawaz Sharif is crucial for fair elections and the normalization of Pakistan.

Last year, the ECP had issued notices to Fawad Chaudhry and others for allegedly using “intemperate” language against the Chief Election Commissioner and the electoral body. During the previous hearing, Chaudhry extended his apology to the ECP and clarified that his statements reflected the party’s narrative as its spokesperson.

The Chief Election Commissioner, Sikandar Sultan Raja, asked Chaudhry if he would obey orders to harm someone from the party chief. Raja also mentioned that Chaudhry’s party had made negative remarks against him, his family, and the ECP in public gatherings.

The ECP will review Chaudhry’s written apology before making a decision on the case.
