Former federal minister Shireen Mazari expressed deep concern on Monday, asserting that her daughter Imaan’s life is in peril. She called upon the courts to safeguard human rights in light of her daughter’s situation.

Addressing journalists outside the Judicial Complex in Islamabad, Shireen Mazari disclosed that her daughter had lost consciousness upon arriving at the police station. She further lamented that Imaan had been placed in a prison cell without receiving any medical assistance.

Shireen Mazari raised issues regarding Imaan’s health, emphasizing that the jail administration was neither providing appropriate meals nor maintaining usable washroom facilities in her prison cell. She expressed concern for her daughter’s well-being, especially given her health issues, and stressed the need for her to stay strong and prioritize her health.

Earlier in the day, an anti-terrorism court (ATC) had remanded human rights lawyer Imaan Mazari into police custody in connection with a case involving “interference in state affairs.” Imaan had been arrested by the police in the early hours of Sunday. Her lawyer had mentioned during the hearing that her client was facing charges in two different cases of a similar nature. Despite a 24-hour physical remand not yielding any recoveries, the police had sought a 10-day extension of her custody, which the ATC judge had granted for three days following arguments.
