PM Sharif Meets Fazlur Rehman to Mend Ties

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met with Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman at his residence in Islamabad on Thursday.

This visit aimed to mend the strained ties between the two leaders that developed after the February 2024 general elections.

During the meeting, PM Shehbaz praised Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s efforts in protecting democracy in Pakistan and acknowledged his religious contributions. To resolve their differences, PM Shehbaz suggested forming a committee to facilitate discussions and address concerns.

Maulana Fazlur Rehman has been vocal about his dissatisfaction with the February 2024 election results, alleging widespread rigging and irregularities. On May 2, he reiterated his rejection of the election outcomes during a public gathering in Karachi, claiming that assemblies, including the Sindh Assembly and President House, were compromised.

The meeting between PM Shehbaz and Maulana Fazlur Rehman signifies an effort to bridge the gap and work towards a more unified political front, addressing the grievances related to the election process and fostering a collaborative approach to governance.
