Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif received a warm welcome upon his arrival at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on Friday. His Chinese counterpart, Premier Li Qiang, greeted him.
The visit began with a ceremonial guard of honour presented by a contingent of the People’s Liberation Army of China, and the national anthems of both Pakistan and China were played.
During the welcoming ceremony, Prime Minister Shehbaz introduced key members of his delegation, including Army Chief General Asim Munir, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, Planning and Development Minister Ahsan Iqbal, and Special Assistant Atta Tarar, to Premier Li.
Following the initial welcome, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is scheduled to hold a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping. He is also set to meet with Zhao Leji, the Chairman of the National People’s Congress Standing Committee.
A significant part of the visit includes attending the signing ceremony of several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) between China and Pakistan, covering cooperation in various fields. This visit, which lasts from June 4 to 8, comes at the invitation of President Xi Jinping and underscores the strong bilateral relations between China and Pakistan.
