PPP Confronts ‘Internal’ Opposition Over Early Dissolution of Assemblies

The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) is reportedly facing opposition from its party leaders over the early dissolution of assemblies. The terms of the national as well as Sindh and Balochistan assemblies are set to expire in August, and there have been discussions about the possibility of early dissolution.

While it was initially reported that the PPP agreed on the early dissolution of the National and Sindh Assemblies, senior party leaders are now opposing this decision. They are urging the party leadership to reconsider the move, as they believe that delaying the elections will damage the PPP’s standing on the ground and that completing the tenure of assemblies will strengthen democracy.

Some senior leaders of the party have also pointed out that the PPP’s increasing popularity in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa could be maximized through timely elections, especially considering the perceived pressure on the ruling party PTI.

The Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), a coalition of opposition parties, is allegedly seeking to delay the elections due to a lack of support from the masses.

In response to the discussions about a potential delay in the general elections, PPP Secretary General Farhatullah Babar has stated that his party is against any such delay. He emphasized that the PPP does not support postponing the polls and has reservations about the statements made by some political parties suggesting otherwise.
