In a meeting with Caretaker Law and Justice Minister Ahmed Irfan Aslam, President Dr. Arif Alvi emphasized the significance of clinging to the” spirit of the Constitution” in relation to opinions regarding the forthcoming general choices in Pakistan.

The chairman appreciated the caretaker high minister’s commitment to abide by the judgment of the Supreme Court of Pakistan on this matter. President Alvi stressed the need to uphold the” supremacy of the Constitution” and prompted that opinions be made in agreement with the indigenous spirit.

This meeting followed President Alvi’s consultations with legal experts concerning the Election Commission of Pakistan’s response regarding the election date. The Ministry of Law and Justice had preliminarily informed the chairman that the Election Commission of Pakistan is the competent authority to advertise or appoint the election date. President Alvi had sought advice on this matter in response to the ECP’s station that the chairman no longer has the authority to fix the pates’ date.

The query girding the election schedule arises from the dissolution of the National Assembly and parochial assemblies in August. The 7th Population and Housing Census of 2023, approved by the Council of Common Interest, has made it naturally necessary for the ECP to conduct fresh delimitations of constituencies.

This process will take roughly four months, making it challenging to hold the general choices within the quested 90- day period. President Alvi’s call for clinging to the indigenous spirit underscores the significance of icing a fair and transparent electoral process in Pakistan. The outgrowth of these opinions will have a significant impact on the country’s popular future.
