Raja Riaz Holds Consultations with Opposition Members on Caretaker Setup

Leader of Opposition in the National Assembly, Raja Riaz, held consultations with opposition parties regarding the caretaker setup. He said that the opposition will reach a consensus over three names for the caretaker prime minister by August 08. Another session of the opposition will be held on Friday to further discuss the matter.

After achieving consensus within the opposition, Raja Riaz will meet with the Prime Minister for consultation on the three names for the caretaker PM. He mentioned that the suggested names could likely include an economist, politician, and technocrat.

The tenure of the National Assembly is set to expire on August 12, and consultations are ongoing among government members on the details of an interim set-up. If the assembly is dissolved before completing its term, elections would be held within the next 90 days. If the National Assembly completes its tenure, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) will be bound to hold polls within the next 60 days. According to the law, the Prime Minister and the Leader of the Opposition are required to consult on the caretaker setup.
