The Lahore High Court (LHC) has granted Rawalpindi police one week to locate and recover Awami Muslim League chief and former interior minister, Sheikh Rasheed, who was arrested in September.

Sheikh Rasheed’s legal team, represented by lawyers Sardar Razzak and Sardar Shehbaz, filed a plea with the LHC Rawalpindi Bench regarding his arrest. The respondents in the case include the Inspector General (IG) of Punjab, the Regional Police Officer (RPO), the Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) of Rawalpindi, and the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Operations.

During the court hearing, RPO Rawalpindi Syed Khurram Ali and CPO Rawalpindi Khalid Hamdani appeared before the court. The court inquired about the progress made in locating Sheikh Rasheed and asked the police officials how much more time they required for his recovery. RPO Rawalpindi explained that the officers responsible for the arrest were not present in the area on the day of the arrest and requested additional time for the recovery efforts.
The court has granted the police one more week to find Sheikh Rasheed, considering it the final opportunity for his recovery. If Sheikh Rasheed is not located within this timeframe, the court has warned that it will issue an order. The case will be adjourned until October 27. Sheikh Rasheed, a former interior minister and the leader of Awami Muslim League (AML), was arrested at his residence in Rawalpindi in September.
