Supreme Court Rejects PTI Chief’s Plea to Halt Toshakhana Case Trial

The Supreme Court of Pakistan rejected Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan’s plea to suspend the immediate trial in the Toshakhana case. The case involves allegations that Imran Khan failed to disclose the details of gifts he received from the Toshakhana (state gift repository) during his time as the Prime Minister.

Imran Khan had filed an appeal against the Islamabad High Court’s decision to send the Toshakhana case back to the trial court for hearing. However, the Supreme Court rejected the immediate relief and issued notices to the parties’ respondents in the case for August 5.

The Toshakhana issue has been a contentious matter in Pakistani politics, and the Election Commission of Pakistan had disqualified Imran Khan for making “false statements and incorrect declarations” in relation to the case. The case alleges corrupt practices under sections 167 and 173 of the constitution, and a criminal proceeding will be initiated against him for filing a false statement. The hearing on the matter will continue on August 4
