IHC Orders Transfer of Bushra Bibi to Adiala Jail

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has directed the authorities to transfer former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s wife, Bushra Bibi, from the Bani Gala residence, which had been designated as a sub-jail, to Adiala Jail. This decision comes following a plea filed by Bushra Bibi seeking her transfer to Adiala Jail from the Bani Gala sub-jail.

Bushra Bibi had been placed under house arrest at her Bani Gala residence as a sub-jail after being convicted in the Toshakhana case. She was taken into custody on January 31 after an Islamabad accountability court sentenced her and Imran Khan to 14 years in jail in the Toshakhana reference.

Challenging the status of her residence as a sub-jail, Bushra Bibi had appealed to the IHC to allow her to serve her 14-year sentence in Adiala Jail. However, earlier in March, the Adiala jail superintendent had informed the IHC that Bushra Bibi could not be shifted to the prison due to security threats.

Although the IHC had suspended their sentences in the Toshakhana reference on April 1, Bushra Bibi remains in custody in the Iddat case. Additionally, former Prime Minister Imran Khan had alleged that his wife was poisoned while in the Bani Gala sub-jail.
