The Balochistan High Court( BHC) has dismissed a first information report( FIR) filed against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf( PTI) Chairman Imran Khan for making commentary against state institutions and their officers during a speech.

The FIR was registered at Bijli Road Police Station in Quetta on March 5 under multiple sections of the Pakistan Penal Code( PPC) and the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act, 2016( PECA). The BHC bench comprising Chief Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan and Justice Gul Hasan Tareen dismissed the FIR and the arrest clearances issued against Khan. The court held that the FIR was” frivolous” and” politically motivated”.

The court also observed that the PTI president’s speech didn’t contain any incitement to violence or abomination. Khan’s counsel, Naeem Haider Panjutha, ate the court’s decision and said that it was a palm for justice. He said that the FIR was filed against Khan with the intention of silencing him and precluding him from speaking out against the government.

The redundancy of the FIR is a major reversal for the government, which has been trying to silence Khan and his sympathizers through legal means. Khan has been a oral critic of the government since he was ousted from power in April 2022. He has indicted the government of being loose and unskillful, and has called for fresh choices.

The government has responded by filing a number of cases against Khan and his sympathizers. still, the redundancy of the FIR is a sign that the government’s legal strategy against Khan isn’t working. It remains to be seen how the government will respond to the court’s decision.
