Caretaker PM Orders Authorities to Shut Down Unsafe Chairlifts

Caretaker Prime Minister Anwar ul Haq Kakar has ordered the immediate closure of chairlifts that are in poor condition and do not meet safety standards following the incident in Battagram.

In response to the incident where eight individuals were stranded in a chairlift after a cable broke, Kakar directed the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), and relevant authorities to utilize all available resources for the immediate rescue.

The caretaker prime minister emphasized the need for tight safety measures on all chairlifts in mountainous areas and instructed that chairlifts that are in poor condition and do not meet safety standards should be closed immediately.
The incident in Battagram prompted a rescue operation by the Pakistan Army’s helicopter to rescue the stranded schoolchildren and teacher who were suspended midair in the chairlift for several hours.
