On Monday, Federal Minister of Climate Change and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader, Sherry Rehman, dismissed reports claiming that the caretaker prime minister’s name had been finalized. During a press conference in Islamabad, she asserted that the decision for the caretaker setup would be made through consensus between the opposition leader and ruling parties.

Sherry Rehman refuted all media reports about the caretaker prime minister, clarifying that no agreement had been signed, and no name had been confirmed. Instead, a three-member committee had been formed, and the media would be updated on the outcome of their consultations.

Highlighting PPP’s constitutional alliance with the ruling party, she firmly rejected rumors that the caretaker prime minister would be selected from one of the federal cabinet members. According to her, no names had been shared with PPP so far, and they had not put forward any names either, emphasizing that impartiality was a crucial requirement for the caretaker setup.

Sherry Rehman reiterated PPP’s demand for timely elections and hoped for a level playing field during the electoral process. She also expressed concern over the current economic situation, which had increased hardships for the common people.

Regarding flood relief efforts, she mentioned that houses for flood victims were under construction, and ownership would be given to women. She also disclosed that 133 deaths were reported during the recent monsoon spell from June 25 onwards, with an emergency declared in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) to address the situation. After the weather conditions normalize, they plan to visit Chitral, where the majority of deaths were caused by wall collapse incidents rather than direct rainfall impact.
