Coded Conversation’ Between Imran Khan and Attock Jail Official Raises Concerns

The administration of Attock Jail in Pakistan is conducting a security audit of its staff after an alleged “coded conversation” took place between a jail official and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan. The recorded conversation between the jail official and Khan reportedly contained words that the administration couldn’t understand.In Effort to Strengthen Security Measures, Comprehensive Biodata of Over 150 Attock Jail Staff Members to be Shared with Special Branch and Other Institutions for Security Clearance.
Additionally, reports will be compiled on employees’ affiliations with extremist organizations and political parties. The use of WhatsApp by jail staff has been banned after geofencing. Due to security concerns, a plan is also being considered to transfer more than 100 prisoners from Attock Jail to other facilities, including Adiala Jail. Imran Khan was sentenced to three years in jail in the Toshakhana case and is currently held at Attock Jail. He has expressed concerns about the conditions of his cell, including issues with flies during the day and insects at night. The PTI has approached the Islamabad High Court seeking Khan’s transfer to Adiala Jail and better facilities.
