The Election Commission of Pakistan( ECP) has reportedly decided to hold general choices in the alternate week of February 2024. According to sources, the ECP is anticipated to issue the sanctioned election schedule after December 2023.
The decision to hold general choices in February 2024 comes after the completion of the delimitation process, which is a pivotal step in the election medication process. The election schedule will be blazoned 54 days after the delimitation process is completed. likewise, the ECP has initiated consultations with major political parties in the country to bandy colorful aspects of the forthcoming general choices.
These consultations will cover matters related to constituency delimitation, namer roll updates, the conduct of the general election, and the election schedule. This decision by the ECP comes after Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja declined a meeting with President Arif Alvi, stating that there’s no need for discussion on the election date, as per the Election Amendment Act.
The Act grants the ECP the autonomy to advertise the election date, generally after the completion of necessary medications and processes. President Arif Alvi had invited the Chief Election Commissioner for a meeting to decide the date of the general choices, but the ECP asserted its authority in this matter.
