The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has suspended the detention of PTI President Pervaiz Elahi under the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) Ordinance and ordered his immediate release. This decision came after Pervaiz Elahi challenged his arrest under the MPO in the IHC and pleaded for his release.

The IHC judge, Justice Tariq Mehmood Jehangiri, presided over the case and issued release orders for PTI President Elahi. The court also issued notices to the respondents named in the plea and requested their replies in the next hearing.

Furthermore, the IHC ordered Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi to appear before the court in the upcoming hearing and refrained him from making statements until that time.

Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi had been rearrested by Islamabad police under the MPO shortly after his release on the Lahore High Court’s orders. The LHC had instructed security officials to ensure his safe return home but was subsequently detained for 15 days under the MPO.

Elahi is one of several PTI leaders who faced MPO charges as part of a crackdown against the party following the May 9 riots. His initial arrest by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on August 14 was related to his failure to provide information regarding an assets beyond means case involving him, his son Monis Elahi, and other family members.
