The total liquid foreign reserves of Pakistan declined by $74 million to $13.46 billion as of June 27, 2023, according to data released by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP). The reserves in the SBP decreased by $32 million to $8.15 billion, while net foreign reserves held by commercial banks dropped by $38 million to $5.3 billion. This decrease in reserves is attributed to external debt repayments during the week ending on July 21, 2023. However, the Finance Minister of Pakistan stated that the country’s foreign exchange reserves have increased from eight billion dollars to around 14 billion dollars due to prudent economic policies and support from friendly countries like Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and China.
