Imprisoned Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan has settled on a candidate for the position of Public Accounts Committee (PAC) Chairman, putting an end to internal disputes within the party.

Speaking to reporters outside Adiala Jail, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan announced that Imran Khan has chosen Sher Afzal Marwat for the role of PAC chairman, declaring that “all conflicts have been resolved.”

Furthermore, Barrister Gohar disclosed plans to stage a protest alongside the newly-formed opposition alliance against the government until their demands are addressed. He stated that the protest aims to safeguard the independence of the judiciary and uphold the rule of law.

The PTI chairman emphasized that there are currently no ongoing negotiations with the government, asserting that any progress made on any front will be communicated to the public.

Earlier, the names of PTI’s Hamid Khan, Hamid Raza from the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC), and JUI-F’s Noor Alam Khan were floated for the top position in the PAC.

Subsequently, the government and opposition in the National Assembly concluded negotiations for a power-sharing arrangement and agreed on the framework for the composition of standing committees in the lower house of parliament.

According to the agreed formula, the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), which holds significant authority, will be led by an opposition member, while the Kashmir committee will be chaired by a member from the treasury benches.

The PAC will consist of 23 members, with 16 from the ruling party and seven from the opposition. The chairman of the PAC will be an opposition legislator.
