The Supreme Court of Pakistan dismissed the Election Commission of Pakistan’s( ECP) plea seeking review of the apex court’s verdict on holding Punjab Assembly choices on May 14. The court’s decision was amicable, with all five judges agreeing that the ECP’s plea wasn’t justifiable.

The ECP had challenged the Supreme Court’s April 4 order of holding choices to the Punjab Assembly on May 14. The ECP had argued that the order was unconstitutional and that it didn’t have the time or coffers to hold choices on such a short notice. still, the Supreme Court rejected the ECP’s arguments, saying that the order was necessary to uphold the Constitution and that the ECP had ample time and coffers to hold choices on May 14.

The court’s decision is a major palm for the Pakistan People’s Party( PPP), which had challenged the ECP’s decision to delay the choices. The PPP had argued that the detention was an attempt to carriage the choices in favor of the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf( PTI). The Supreme Court’s decision has also been ate by other opposition parties, who have indicted the ECP of being poisoned in favor of the PTI.

The Supreme Court’s decision is a significant development in Pakistan’s political geography. It shows that the bar is willing to intermediate in matters of electoral republic, indeed when it means challenging the authority of the ECP. This is a positive development for Pakistan, as it shows that the bar is committed to upholding the Constitution and icing free and fair choices.
