Ali Muhammad Khan, a leader from the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, has been released from Central Jail Mardan after spending 80 days in custody. He was granted bail in a case related to his arrest under the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) law.

A two-member bench of Justice Aijaz Anwar and Justice Fazal Subhan heard the plea of Ali Muhammad Khan, and after initial arguments, they approved his bail and ordered his immediate release. The court also summoned the deputy commissioner of Mardan for the next hearing, scheduled for August 8.

This release comes after a series of arrests for Ali Muhammad Khan. On July 25, he was re-arrested for the eighth time from Mardan, just after his previous release on bail under the MPO.

The arrest of the PTI leader and former Prime Minister on May 9 had led to violent clashes across Pakistan. The protests spread to various cities, with party workers expressing agitation over their chairman’s arrest. Balochistan, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Islamabad witnessed demonstrations, prompting authorities to call on the armed forces to maintain law and order. During one protest by PTI workers, there were attacks on army installations and the Corps Commander’s house in Lahore.
