Judge Humayun Dilawar’s Demotion Cause Exposed

District and Sessions Court Judge Humayun Dilawar, who convicted Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan in the Toshakhana case, has been demoted to the position of Officer on Special Duty (O.S.D) by the Islamabad High Court (IHC). This decision came after Judge Dilawar had sentenced Imran Khan to a three-year prison term, a fine of Rs. 100,000, and a five-year disqualification from holding public office in the Toshakhana case.

Judge Dilawar, who announced the verdict in the Toshakhana case, subsequently wrote a letter to the IHC’s chief justice on August 17, highlighting security threats to himself and his family. In his letter, he mentioned that a smear campaign against him had been initiated on social media, and he had received threats from various individuals around the world. Due to these concerns, Judge Dilawar requested a transfer to special courts, the judicial complex, or the high court.

Following this, the IHC, on the instruction of Chief Justice Aamir Farooq, issued a notification demoting Judge Humayun Dilawar to Officer on Special Duty (O.S.D), and he has been asked to report to the Islamabad High Court.

The Toshakhana case verdict, which resulted in Imran Khan’s conviction, fine, and disqualification, led to his arrest from his residence in Zaman Park. He was subsequently shifted to Central Jail Attock. It was reported that after announcing the verdict, Judge Humayun Dilawar departed for London, possibly for a training workshop along with other judges.
