Parliamentary Panel to Determine Interim Balochistan CM

The decision to select the caretaker chief minister for Balochistan has been handed over to a parliamentary committee after the government and opposition were unable to agree on a candidate. According to the law, a decision had to be made within three days of the dissolution of the provincial assembly, and Tuesday marked the deadline for finalizing a name.
Chief Minister of Balochistan, Abdul Quddus Bizenjo, and Leader of the Opposition, Malik Sikandar, had put forward the name of Mir Ali Mardan Khan Domki for the role of interim chief minister. However, sources indicate that while the name of Ali Mardan Domki had been discussed, CM Bizenjo did not agree to endorse him as his successor.

The Constitution outlines the process for such situations. If the chief minister and the opposition leader are unable to agree on a candidate within the stipulated time, the matter is referred to a parliamentary committee. This committee receives three names each from the chief minister and the opposition leader. If the committee is also unable to reach a consensus, the matter is then sent to the Election Commission of Pakistan for a final decision.
