President Dr Arif Alvi Returns 13 Bills Unsigned

President Dr. Arif Alvi has returned 13 bills to the congress for retrospection, thereby refusing to subscribe them. These bills had preliminarily been passed by both houses of congress during the term of the PML- N- led government.

The ultimate decision on these bills will be made after the general choices, once a new National Assembly is in place. Among the bills returned by the President is the Code of Criminal Procedure correction bill, which granted fresh powers to the police. Other bills include emendations to legislation related to press, journals, news agencies, and book enrollment . The President also returned the protection of intelligencers and Media Professionals bill, aiming to transfer the perpetration of intelligencer protection from the Ministry of Human Rights to the Ministry of Information.

The National Commission for Human Development( Amendment) Bill, which aimed to review the functions of the NCHD and ameliorate its governing structure, has also been transferred back. The significances and Exports( Control)( Correction) Bill 2023, designed to address difficulty cases in import/ import- related matters, was also among the returned bills.

likewise, the President returned the Advanced Education Commission( HEC) bill, which sought to extend the term of the HEC president to four times. Other bills related to public sector commissions, educational institutions, and technology institutes were also transferred back for retrospection. On the other hand, President Arif Alvi approved the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority( PEMRA) Amendment Bill 2023 under Composition 75 of the Constitution of Pakistan. The blessing of this bill allows for emendations in electronic media regulations and operations.
