The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has issued a written verdict regarding the July 25 hearing, during which it suspended the non-bailable arrest warrant for Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief in a contempt case.

According to the written order, the ECP temporarily suspended the arrest warrant for the PTI chief and summoned him in person before the election commission on August 2. Additionally, the commission accepted the request from the PTI chairman’s lawyer for the provision of case records.

The concerned wing has been ordered to provide relevant records to the PTI chief’s counsels, leading to the suspension of the non-bailable arrest warrant.

Previously, on July 24, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) had issued the non-bailable arrest warrant for the PTI chairman in the contempt case. The arrest warrant was related to the contempt of the Election Commission of Pakistan, and the ECP had instructed the police to arrest and produce the PTI chairman.

Furthermore, the ECP had decided to indict former Prime Minister and PTI chairman, Fawad Chaudhry, and Asad Umar in a case related to the contempt of the electoral body. This decision was taken after the ECP issued notices to Imran Khan and others in August 2022 for allegedly using “intemperate” language against Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikander Sultan Raja and the electoral watchdog.

The political leaders had repeatedly criticized the commission and CEC Sikandar Raja, referring to the electoral body as a “subsidiary of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz.”

The verdict was announced by a four-member commission headed by Sindh member Nisar Durrani, which addressed the reservations raised by the PTI.
